about
city film days

City film days are an annual film event, with each edition being dedicated to a different city. For each city, a curator compiles a two-day program of short, documentary, and feature films to draw a cinematic portrait of his/her hometown, its history and architecture, its everyday life and its political and social landscape. City film days invite their visitors to explore the multifacedness of urban space. They aim to be both a platform for film-makers and an event bringing together different communities in Berlin and beyond.
Yerevan

The Yerevan edition of city film days portraits the Armenian capital with a mix of documentaries highlighting its diverse architectural layers; film showing its multifaced social landscape more than thirty year's after the collapse of the USSR as well as comedies poniting to the everyday-life and humor of the city. Together the films seek to push beyond a view that narrows down Yerevan either to a post-socialist city or exoticizes it.

curator
city film days Yerevan is curated by Diana Martirosyan. Diana’s relationship with cinema started through journalism: after earning a bachelor’s degree in Journalism from the Russian-Armenian University, she went on to study Film Studies at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography. Diana’s professional career started with covering cinema and culture for radio and television. Later, she got more and more immersed in diverse cultural and urban initiatives as well as the film festival world. In her home town, Diana collaborates with the Golden Apricot Yerevan International Film Festival and the ReA International Animation Film & Comics Art Festival of Yerevan (ReAnimania). Internationally, she has served on FIPRESCI and official festival juries across the world, including in Kyiv, Torino, Odesa, Berlin, Athens, Batumi, Almaty, Cairo, and Ljubljana.
When Diana is neither traveling from one assignment to the other, she teaches the next generation of filmmakers as a lecturer of contemporary cinema at the Yerevan State Institute of Theatre and Cinematography.
